It's also completely fabricated.
The Ghost Statistic
The "75% auto-rejection" number traces back to a single source: Preptel, a company that sold resume-optimization services in 2012. They published the stat as part of a sales pitch. No methodology. No sample size. No peer review. No data at all, actually — just a number designed to scare people into buying their product.
Preptel went bankrupt in 2013. The statistic didn't.
It got picked up by career blogs, then by mainstream media. Forbes ran with it. CNBC repeated it.
